Canggu… Big waves, relaxed surfing atmosphere, lively beach clubs aaaand AMAZING food!
There is just so much to choose from when it comes to picking your perfect brunch spots in Bali, and Canggu is no different. I couldn’t get enough of the colourful juices and instagrammable smoothie bowls. Whether you’re veggie, vegan, or carnivore – Canggu can cater to you’re cravings.
I have whittled down some firm cafe favourites from our stay in Canggu…
We happened to get a free breakfast here every morning as part of our accommodation, it was right across the road from us, but regardless the food was great, especially the banana pancake. along with fresh juices and smoothie bowls they also serve traditional balinese breakfasts which Sean opted for most mornings. It was really reasonably priced in comparison to some of the other cafes in Canggu and they also have an all day happy hour – win win.
Everyone who comes to Canggu raves about Crate Cafe, and yeah the food is really delicious and presented beautifully, however we waited a full 45 minutes for our food which was essentially just toast, eggs and avocado, because the place was sooo busy. The menu is on the wall behind the counter and its not table service which I feel lets it down a bit. They have eggs in every way you can imagine with all sorts of accompaniments. All in all good food and nice atmosphere in the place, you can sit on the roof terrace and watch the world go by.
Famed for their crazy, colourful smoothie bowls, Nalu bowls is a nice spot to stop for breakfast lunch or even just a snack. From the outside it looks like a cute little beach hut, and it’s quite small, giving it a cosy feel. Don’t worry they also have a separate menu with more variety if smoothie bowls aren’t your thing (if they’re not then you’re weird). I highly recommend the ‘Uluwatu’ bowl if you want ALL the toppings on your bowl.
In The Raw
We loved it here! There was so much choice on the menu. I had the tuna ahi poke bowl and it was the most amazing lunch I’ve had here yet, so tasty! This place is geared more towards vegetarian and vegan foodies but they still had some meat options on the menu. The smoothies were to die for too and the portions were really big making it good value for money.
Gypsy has a really chilled out vibe; it’s the perfect stop for a morning coffee and also for a post-surf Bintang. It serves amazing food all day, some of the dishes on the menu are really different. The burger I had was amazing and bursting with fillings. The outside terrace is so lovely and looks beautiful when it’s lit up at night too.
I have saved the best to last! Betelnut was by far our favourite place to eat in Canggu for brunch, you know its good when you come back to somewhere again and again. I can really recommend the ‘Naga Bomb’ smoothie bowl and you can even get health shots like turmeric and apple cider vinegar (didn’t taste too great but v healthy). It has so much to choose from on the menu and the service was great. You definitely need to try this place at least once on your trip to Canggu, you won’t regret it.
